Start with what you want to understand, rather than what you think you should buy.
A helpful first question is whether you are interested in an external design, an insertable design, or a combination. You can keep your first choice simple. There is no ladder to climb from a small toy to a bigger or more complicated one.
Rabbit vibrators
Two areas, one design. A longer part designed for vaginal use and a smaller external arm. Fit and the distance between the two parts matter; a rabbit is an option, not a necessary first step.

Compact and focused. A small, rounded design for external use. Compare the controls and grip as well as the size: tiny buttons can be less convenient than a larger handle.
Explore bullet vibrators ↗Wand vibrators
A broader point of contact. A rounded head with a handle, usually designed for external massage. Check the lowest setting, head size and weight; a larger head does not tell you how gentle a particular model will feel.
Explore wand vibrators ↗Clitoral stimulators
Made for external exploration. This category includes different mechanisms, such as vibration and air pulses. Check which the individual model offers, and how its contact surface and controls are designed.

Five details worth comparing
- Controls. Look for buttons you can reach, a clear way to reduce intensity and an easy off switch. More patterns are not automatically more useful.
- Dimensions. Compare length, width and weight. For an insertable product, total length and insertable length are different measurements. Use a ruler to understand the listed size; photographs can be misleading.
- Power. Check whether batteries are needed, whether they are included, or which charger is supplied. Rechargeable and battery-powered designs both have practical trade-offs.
- Cleaning. Read the water-resistance rating and care instructions. “Splashproof” does not mean suitable for immersion.
- Materials and compatibility. Check the full material description and the recommended lubricant. A marketing label alone is not a substitute for clear specifications.
Keep your shortlist small
Pick two or three models and compare the details that matter in your daily life: grip, controls, storage, charging and budget. A simple product you understand is a perfectly valid choice. If a specification is missing, ask us before ordering rather than guessing from an image.
Next: exploring at your pace or choosing a compatible lubricant.
